Tulip Festival was officially opened by the Vernon Mountain Chamber of Commerce in 1984. The directors of the Chamber of Commerce, Jerry Diegene and Joan Hu , saw thousands of people coming to watch tulips, so they decided to add activities and celebrations through a rest and recuperation event to enhance tourists' travel to the Scargit Valley. In 1994, Tulip Festival broke away from the Chamber of Commerce and became an independent entity, eventually opening an independent office and shop. From the humble beginning, it grew up. From two days to 10 days, to 17 days, to 30 days. The expansion to 30 days is to ensure that a large field of tulips grown in the Saskan Valley, is actually blooming sometime during the holiday season.
