Tri-State Battery Supply started in the early 1980s; However, Lois Clark, Randy's mother, started working for central Battery in Jackson, MS in 1960, which marked the beginning of the Clark family's involvement in the battery industry. She moved to the Shreveport, Louisiana, location of the business in 1974. Randy first became involved in the business in Shreveport; trying to make ends meet by working part-time after school unloading and stacking used batteries. Beginning in 1976, the business, which is now Tri-State Battery Supply, moved to Longview, Texas. Randy left college after two years to move to Longview and work as a shop foreman for Chloride. Randy was able to acquire invaluable management experience and a comprehensive working knowledge of batteries through this position with a major manufacturer and distributor.
