Showplace Rent was established in May 1981 as TV Outlet by Gary Ferriman and his wife, Mary Ann. They started selling color televisions on their front porch in Marion while holding full-time jobs. In May 1982, the first commercial location was established, marking the current Showplace Rent's "anniversary." In 1983, Gary and his then-partner Ron Simpson began renting out traded-in goods for $10 per week, which rapidly expanded the business. New Zenith and Quasar TVs and electronic products were added, along with 10-foot C-band satellite antenna installations. The company, now known as TV Outlet & Satellite, achieved nearly $1 million in revenue within a 2000 square foot store, and later moved to its current location on Bellefontaine Avenue.
