Shelby County Arts Council goal is to support, cultivate, and promote the opportunities for the arts and culture in Shelby County, Alabama. Since 2005, Shelby County Arts Council has worked to promote the visual and performing arts throughout the county. It is motivated by the belief that the arts can motivate individuals and communities. In response to Shelby County's lack of arts programming, Terri Sullivan and a small group of interested citizens established the former Columbiana Fine Arts Center in 2004. In 2005, they added more classes and broadened their vision as the Academy of Fine Arts of Shelby County. They were given its new name in 2007 to better reflect its role in promoting arts programs and assisting artists throughout the county. As a functioning 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, the SCAC is fully incorporated.
