On June 1, 1973, Gary Nipton opened the door of his small shop in Boulder, University of Colorado for the first time. Initially, the shop repaired mountaineering and ski boots, installed edges on wooden skis, and reinstalled ice axes. Gary is surrounded by a group of like-minded adventurers who share the same enthusiasm and set out to create a shop run by fanatics. In 2013, Gary sold the store to a remote area of Texas, where it worked hard to live up to the traditions and community relationships built under Gary's leadership. In 2017, Andrew and Shelley Dunbar purchased Neptune Mountaineering. A local Boulder resident, Dunbar also owns the North American business of Sea to Summit, located opposite the town of Boulder. Today's Neptune Mountaineering is a locally-owned, independent, single-location brick-and-mortar retail store-something they are really proud of.
