The long and fascinating history of the western Australia reflects and documents the state's rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage. It was established in the old Perth in 1891 and is known as the Geological. Its collections are geology, ethnography and biology. In 1897, it officially became Museum and gallery of western Australia. In 1959, the plant collection was moved to a new herbarium and gallery became independent institutions. It focuses its collection and research interests on natural science, anthropology, archaeology and national history. In the 1960s and 1970s, it also began working in emerging fields such as historic shipwrecks and the management of indigenous sites. Today, Museum of western Australia includes six public Spaces and a collection and research center, and houses more than eight million objects from rare fossils to the iconic Australian sailing ship II.
