The board June accommodate up to four programmable frequency oscillator chips (not supplied; available from Digi-Key for less than $5 each). In many radios, these PLL frequency sources can serve as a super-stable quartz crystal alternative. From 1 to 125 MHz, any frequency can be chosen. HAYSEED HAMFEST guard against unintentional harm to the oscillators, all input and output signals are buffered. A crystal replacement can be used to drive mixers, up- and downconverters, receiver LOs, channelized transceivers, and transmitters with the output being a clean 5 volt P-P signal.
