Around the turn of the 20th century, CECIL WALKER was born in the Marrickville neighborhood of Sydney. The son of a greengrocer, they began cycling by delivering groceries to neighborhood customers on their bike. Soon after, they joined the neighborhood cycling club. They had a bad start to track racing because they crashed on the very first corner of their maiden race and finished it in a heap on the ground. In their brilliance, CECIL WALKER had overlooked the fact that their tires required adhesive to be attached. Over the ensuing years, they gained more expertise in both road and track racing, becoming more well-known in Sydney's six-day track racing before embarking on a ship to America, which was then the center of track racing, in 1920.
