The aavso is a non-profit international organization of observers of variable stars whose goal is to make it possible for anyone, anywhere, to participate in variable star astronomy-based scientific discovery. By observing and analyzing variable stars, collecting and archiving observations for worldwide access, and fostering strong collaborations between amateur and professional astronomers, they accomplish their mission. The aavso was established in 1911 to organize variable star perceptions made generally by novice space experts for Harvard School Observatory.
